A quick call into Bescot on 04.11.98 around 1500 I saw 31450 and 31554 waiting to follow out once our train had passed. In fading light the pair storm through the station with a loaded cwr set for the Walsall line.
On reflection a rare combo indeed at this time, for didn't you say that there was only one 31 (this one) done out in EWS maroon/red paintwork as well ?
31434, 31450 and 31467 flew the blue flag till the end, being joined by reinstated 31427 near the end in 1998. And it spent most of its time at Bescot paired with 31466 in EWS to create a combo of livs with decades of difference. 31466 was the only 31 painted in EWS red for service though one scrapper (now preserved I think) at Toton was used for a test paint.
